Dianella Pictures was started by myself - Kay Goodwin - because I'm passionate about photography. My passion began when I was a small girl. I was caravanning with my parents and saw for the first time some truly wild places. I was amazed by nature's canvas. I had never seen, or maybe never noticed, how dramatic a sunset could be. But I noticed it then, and from that moment onwards I saw all the pictures that nature had created. I wanted to capture those images. My parents gave me a camera - and so my hobby began.
Along the way - and as my hobby progressed - I met others with the same interest. I take pictures of many things but I'm always drawn back to the raw beauty of the natural world. I have quite a collection now!
In 2009 the opportunity came to me to start this business. I had often thought about it. I liked the concept of printing to canvas, and ordered some of my own. When my pictures arrived I was disappointed. The quality was not very good – I knew I could do better. My background is the print industry and I have been pushing pixels with Adobe Photoshop for a good number of years. I also know how a canvas should be stretched.
So I printed my own canvases and stretched them myself. I was pleased with the result. And so were others. People asked me if my pictures were for sale.
And now they are. This website has been created to showcase good images that can be printed to canvas. The photography is by myself and other chosen photographers. But more than that, I wanted for others to create their own unique artwork by using their own photographs.
I know how important photographs are to people. For that reason, when I'm printing to canvas, it is done with the best inks and at the high resolution of 1440 dpi. The printed canvas is then stretched over a frame using traditional methods. In other words it is done properly.
Our online gallery contains hundreds of high-quality photographs and is well worth a visit. If you wish to purchase one, just add it to your shopping cart.
Alternatively, you can upload your own photograph and we will print it to canvas.
I grew up in a house that was called Dianella. It was owned by my Grandparents, and was named after the ship my Grandfather served on during world war two. The name has always stuck in my mind. I later discovered that the Dianella is a small plant. There are thirty known species and over half are native to Australia.
When the time came for me to choose a name for my business Dianella was the obvious choice.
Dianella Caerulea is a small delicate blue flower with a yellow anthers. You will find it my logo.
